Bernard A. Barrosse, Jr., died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Cokesbury Village in Hockessin on February 3rd, 2018, at the age of 90.Bernie is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Joan, his children: Ellen Barrosse of Wilmington, Delaware; Emily Barrosse of Washington, DC; Mary Barrosse Schwartz of East Dorset, Vermont; Anne Aaronson of Ridgefield, Connecticut; and David Barrosse of Washington, DC; and his 12 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Bernard A. Barrosse, III, who died in 1976.Bernie was born in Asheville, NC in 1927 to Bernard A. Barrosse and Emma Fowler Barrosse. He graduated from North Carolina State with a BS in Mechanical Engineering after serving in the U.S. Army.He worked for the DuPont Company for 37 years, from 1952 to 1989. Throughout his career, Bernie loved to build teams and solve problems, and he was a valued mentor to many colleagues.He was an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, serving as its first Parish Council President, as a member of the Sages, and as a Third-Degree Knight of Columbus. He also served on the Bishop's Building Committee for over 35 years.The family would like to thank all of Bernie's caregivers at Cokesbury Village for their extraordinary kindness and compassion in his final months.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 8th, at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9 AM to 10:30 AM.
