Anthony J. DiMaio, M.D., 86, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Seasons Hospice.Anthony was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Mary (Aminto) and Joseph S. DiMaio. He was a 1950 graduate of Wilmington High School, 1954 graduate from the University of Delaware and he completed his medical training in 1959 at Thomas Jefferson Medical School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a doctor from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed at the US Marine Corp Air Station in Beufort, SC. From 1963 to 1995, Dr. DiMaio was in a partnership with Dr. Earl Walker. In 1995, he opened his own practice and worked until his retirement in 2013. Dr. DiMaio was an avid fan of the Blue Hens and the Philadelphia Eagles.In addition to his parents, Anthony was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia (Quitinsky) DiMaio; his son, William G. DiMaio, his brother, Joseph S. DiMaio, and his fianc Mary Charles Santopietro. Dr. DiMaio is survived by his son, Lawrence J. DiMaio and fianc Amy Watkins of Wilmington; his son Anthony J. DiMaio, Jr. of North Hollywood, CA; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Henry Dumire of Clayton, DE; his daughter-in-law, Amy B. DiMaio of Louisville, KY; grandsons, William, Griffin and Benjamin DiMaio and Wade and Blaine Dumire; and his sister, Arlene Moore of Wilmington.The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice for the excellent care they provided.Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11 AM at Holy Family Church, East Chestnut Hill Road and Gender Drive, Newark. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
