Anna Mae Eleanor Anderson was born in Avondale, PA to the late Isaiah and Lydia Baker on February 4, 1930. She departed this earthly life on Monday, August 11, 2025, surrounded by her family. She received Christ at an early age under the leadership of her parents and faithfully attended church. She instilled in all those around her the importance of reading the Bible and trusting in God. She dedicated her life to God, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Anna Mae received her Bachelor of Education from Cheyney College and also completed additional courses at Temple University. On November 10, 1955, she entered into Holy Matrimony with William Anderson. As a military wife, Anna Mae taught all around the world including Germany, France, Texas, Washington State and Philadelphia. She finally settled down in Wilmington, Delaware and retired from the Christina School District after 30 years of teaching. She did not stop there, and she continued her passion for teaching as a substitute teacher in multiple school districts up until the age of 82. She loved spending time with her family, vacationing, shopping, reading, watching the news and staying abreast of current affairs and politics. She had the honor of meeting President Joseph Biden in person while voting.
Anna Mae is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Jacqueline McNeil (Leonard), Adrienne Anderson-Ferrell (Roy Sr,); her grandchildren, Dr. Jessica Santiel (Tremel), Dr. Christopher McNeil (Jessica), Dr. Roy Ferrell, II, and Alexandria Ferrell; her great grand- children, Moses, Madison, Marshall, Caleb, and Chloe Mae; and her siblings Mary Frances (Alfred), Dr. Evelyn Dandy, and Donald Baker (Marjorie), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Anna Mae was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, William Anderson, and her siblings James, June, Isaiah Jr, Richard and Robert.
Family and Friends are invited to Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Thursday, August 28, 2025, for a celebration of her life. A viewing will be held at 11 AM - 12 PM with funeral services to begin at noon. Please wear vibrant colors, keeping the celebration uplifting . The Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
