Age 97, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Foulk Manor South.Born in Rovno, Ukraine, Anna was the daughter of the late Wasyl and Herpina Melnyk. She was forced to leave her home and was conscripted to work on a German farm during World War II. While on this farm, she met her husband and they were able to escape one day prior to the bombing of the location. Anna, her husband, and three children went on to immigrate from Giesen, Germany to the United States. Once in Delaware, she worked in the maintenance department of Wilmington Trust, in addition to raising her 5 children. She was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church. A devoted grandmother, she loved her "big family", her grandchildren, animals and baking traditional desserts. She was predeceased by her husband, Matwij Berbeza, her daughter, Olha Warner, her son-in-law, Bill Chrisco and her siblings.She will be dearly missed by her children, Luba Berbeza of Wilmington, Charles Berbeza (Marcy) of Wilmington, Kathy Hoffman (Rick) of Middletown and Marie Chrisco of Wilmington, DE; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike), Nancy, Crissy, Tracy (David), Connie (Kenny), Rachel (Sean), Matthew, Nikki, Michael, Chris, Mackenzie, and Delaney; her son-in-law, Jim Pierce; and her great grandchildren, Drew, Brooke, Lexie, Autumn, April, Molly, Tanner, Casey, Phoebe, Amber, Jamie, Cecily.A visitation will be held from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. on Wednesday January 16th, 2019 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 800 W Lea Blvd, Wilmington, DE 19802. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church at the above address.
