Anita Julia Flynn, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the ProMedica Nursing Facility in North Wilmington.

Anita was born on March 6, 1927; the beloved only child of James P. and Lena (Sell) Flynn. She was a life-long resident of the Wilmington "Forty Acres", living in the family home on Bancroft Parkway. She was a graduate of St. Ann's Parochial School, Wilmington High School (Class of '44) and the Franklin School of Science and the Arts in Philadelphia.  She was employed as a laboratory technician with the DuPont Company at the Chambers Works for 36 years, retiring in 1987.

Anita was an active member of St. Ann's Parish, singing in the choir and participating in many of the parish ministries throughout the years. She loved to serve others in need and volunteered countless hours at St. Mary's Parish and Emmanuel Dining Hall. Her commitment to putting others before her own needs was a model for us all.

Though she never married, Anita had many lifelong friends that she cherished. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed being a member of the Wilmington Irish Culture Club. She loved every cat and dog that crossed her path and could often be seen walking her "children" down Bancroft Parkway!

Anita leaves no survivors but will always be cherished as "Aunt Anita" to the family of her late childhood friend, Anita Mulrooney McBride, who cared for her the past few years. Special thanks is given to Fatmata, Carmen and the ProMedica Hospice staff as well as to her neighbors and friends for their care of Anita.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 9th, 12:30 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE.  Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
