Obituary

Andrew Stephen DiEmedio, (Drew), age 30, passed away suddenly at home in New London, PA on February 24, 2023.

Born January 19, 1993 in Newark, DE, Drew came into the world in the most unique way. Despite being 8 minutes away from Christiana Hospital, Drew's rapid birth occurred in an ambulance parked in the family driveway… and the world has never been the same.

Drew never ceased to amaze with his spirit and incredible intellect. He grew up to embody a true Renaissance man, full of curiosity with a brilliant mind.  He was an artist. A book collector (in the thousands). A prodigious reader. Lover of literature, writing, movies, and music. A born therapist to many. His passions were extensive and varied, including raising a tortoise and many fish, refinishing antique knives, anything Japanese, all types of cooking and baking….and the list goes on.

Drew lived a complicated life with brain chemistry challenges and neurological struggles. He was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome at age 7. After completing high school, he excelled at Delaware County Community College, achieving a near perfect 4.0 GPA. His college writing was shared with future classes as an example to follow. He was a caretaker for many, but most especially to his Dad and family.

For the last 7 years, Drew fought hard and lived in recovery from addiction struggles. This sudden relapse and accidental overdose was horrible and tragic. Drew now rests in the peace he so valiantly searched for on this earth. His loved ones urge everyone to get educated about this disease. Remember your joyous memories of Drew. Continue to keep up your own good fight, whatever that may be.

Some lessons we learned from Drew: You can never have too many books (or cool t-shirts). What matters most are positive connections with others. When you go out in the world, know who you are.

Drew is survived by his devoted parents Julie G. Anderson-DiEmedio and Robert D. DiEmedio and his beloved brother Corey DiEmedio. He is also survived by his uncle, Al DiEmedio (Dianne), uncle, Dan DiEmedio, uncle, Pete Anderson (Claudia), aunt, Chris Coffman, aunt, Nancy DiGiacomo (Anthony), uncle, Dan Anderson (Linda), aunt, Kathy Anderson (Jacqueline Warren), uncle, Paul Anderson (Sharon), Sister Catherine (Kay) Anderson OP, and many extended family members and close friends.

He will be welcomed into the next world by his MomMom Angela (Alisa) and PopPop Dominick DiEmedio, Grandma Georgann (Stowe) and Grandpa AJ Anderson, step-Grandma Laura B. Anderson, aunt Patrice (Anderson) Brunskill and many other loving family members and friends.

A Memorial celebrating his life well-lived will be held on Saturday, March 11 at Mealey's Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE.
