Almeta Lucille Clifton, age 90, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.
Lucy was born on April 14, 1936 to the late Victor and Lucy Darnell Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Harold Clifton; her sisters, Helen Barns and Amanda Holman; and her brother, Jimmy Walker.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Walker; sisters, Loretta Marsh, Margie Johnson and Kay Callaway as well as her four daughters and their spouses Deborah Smith (Joe), Sheila Snyder (Tom), Pamela Campbell (Bryan), Linda Knox, Curtis Clifton (Lisa) and Karen Merritt (Ken); her grandchildren, Stephanie, Michelle, Lisa, Glen, Krystle, Jenna, McKenzie, Alexis, and Paige; as well as 15 great grandchildren and was blessed with her most recent great granddaughter Frankie Nova.
Lucy’s greatest accomplishment was the love she gave to her family. Her life was one of faith, hard work, generosity, and devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Lucy worked for the State of Delaware prior to her retirement. She was an avid golfer, often playing at numerous golf courses. She was an enthusiastic horseracing fan and enjoyed watching the Saratoga horse races. Lucy enjoyed her travels, often to West Palm Beach, and spending time with her family.
The family wishes to express deep thanks to Renee Crumlish for her loving care and the mother-daughter bond as sister number five.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 26th from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. with funeral services to begin at 12 P.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
