Obituary

Alice B. Muehlberger passed away on April 16, 2024. She was born Alice Clifton in 1931, the 5th of 8 children of Elwood C. Clifton, Sr. and Florence Mae Williams, and raised in Richardson Park and later in the Quaker Hill area of Wilmington, Delaware. Graduating from Wilmington High School in 1950 she soon married Francis R. Bradley, who was then drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Alice and Francis had 5 children, an oldest daughter and 4 sons, over the next ten years, educating them at Christ Our King Parish School while she began her career working for the DuPont Company in Wilmington. The family belonged to the Elks Club, spending summers at their pool. She was active in all aspects of her children's upbringing, including as a very vocal supporter at their Little League games.

Her husband Francis died in 1976 and she and her 4 sons moved to Pike Creek Valley. She retired from DuPont in 1981 when she married her second husband, Lew Braddock. For several years they lived on Lew's yacht, traveling up and down the Intracoastal Waterway between Northeast, Maryland and Tampa, Florida before settling in Spring Hill, Florida. There she cared for Lew after his stroke but they still went on cruises and attended concerts to hear Big Band music. After Lew's death she married Edward Muehlberger in 1993. Alice and Ed lived in Spring Hill and were active travelers, seeing many parts of the country including cruising to Alaska and taking a bus trip to Branson, Missouri. They moved to Millsboro, Delaware in 2001 to be closer to Alice's family and lived there until Ed's death in 2010. After his death she moved to North Wilmington to be close to her daughter.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the focus of her life and she took great pride telling anyone who would listen all about them. Their visits to her in Florida or her attendance at their birthday or graduation parties were special occasions for Alice. She could be feisty and she knew what she wanted, never hesitant to share those opinions with family or physicians. Her life was difficult at times but hopefully the good times with family and friends more than compensated.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Elwood, Jr., Charles and Walter, and her sister Helen. She is survived by 3 sisters, Ruth Ann DeBoda, Carol Martin and Barbara Hayden; her 5 children, Lucinda (Kevin) McGonegal, Francis (Gabrielle), Dennis (Kimberly), Terrence (Kathy) and Brian (Beth); 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
