Bill, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Foulk Manor South Senior Living Community.Born in Wilmington, Bill was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Charlotte Mae (Yeamans) Grussemeyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Levering.He will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Evans of Upper Chichester, PA; and his son and daughter-in-law, William Jr. and Joanne Grussemeyer of Apollo Beach, FL; and his son Brett Grussemeyer of Newark, DE. He also leaves his brother, Joseph P. Grussemeyer, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Bill worked for the E.I. DuPont Company for 28 years, retiring as a test specialist. His military service included time in the Delaware Army National Guard, active Army duty during and after the Korean conflict, and finally retiring from the Green Berets Army Special Forces reserve unit with the rank of Major. He also achieved the President's 100 sharpshooter status for both rifle and pistol.Bill's recreational activities were many and included skydiving, scuba diving, sailing, skiing, tennis, and sand volleyball. He was a licensed airplane pilot and sailboat captain, and a member of the New Castle Sailing Club and the Wilmington Ski Club.Bill was an excellent craftsman and all-around handyman.Visitation will be at the Mealey Funeral Home (2509 Limestone Rd in Wilmington) on Monday, January 26th, at noon followed by a memorial service at 1:30 PM and then a burial at All Saints Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation should be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
