Obituary

William H Moore (Bill), age 98 of Wilmington Delaware and formerly of Millsboro and Bear, died at home on Saturday May 29, 2021, one week after the passing of his wife Barbara (Dolly) M. Moore with whom he shared 74 years of marriage. Born in New Castle Delaware, he was the son of the late Harry B. Moore and the late Frances Harrington Moore. Bill was born on August 20, 1922 and shared his birthday with his wife Dolly with only a four year difference in their ages. Bill grew up on a farm in Bear and helped his family with all of the typical farm chores, milking, planting, cultivating, and harvesting. He graduated from Newark High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Corp as a member of the Signal Corp during WWII. After returning from the war, Bill operated several different service stations along Rt 40. Bill was appointed as a Rural Letter Carrier for Bear Delaware. He was known to many as their reliable local mailman. In his younger years Bill played amateur baseball with local teams and continued to enjoy watching the professionals play on television and at spring training in Florida. He was an avid bowler sometimes bowling as many as four nights a week. He spent many hours gardening and raising his own produce which he shared with family and friends. After retiring, Bill and Dolly moved to Millsboro where he enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing on the Indian River. Bill loved spending time with his family and would delight in bringing in the crab pots and cooking up a feast whenever company arrived. He was a master at catching crabs with a chicken neck and hand line and taught all his grandchildren the art. Bill is survived by two sons, William H. Moore Jr, of Wilmington, and Jeffrey M. Moore and his wife Jeanne of Landenberg, PA; his grandchildren, George Simpson (Tammy), Wm. Timothy Simpson (Shelly), Kevin Simpson (Carol), Etta Smith (Seth), Ryan Moore (Diane) and Bethany Healy (Jimmy); his great- grandchildren Shelby, Jonah, "G", Brooke, Kathryn, Travis, Shae, Emma, Carry, Clay, Ralph, Amanda, Ally, Skylar, Lane, Levi, Tilly, and JW. In addition to his wife Dolly, Bill was predeceased by his daughter Joan M. Simpson and his brother George R. Moore.
