Obituary

Walter Francis Liszewski, 92, of Tully, NY passed away on 5/16/2022 in Wilmington, DE.

He was born to parents Walter E. Liszewski and Josephine Soltys in Amsterdam, New York in 1929. Walt graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in business administration in 1947 where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. After his military service during the Korean War, Walt married his wife of 53 years, Catherine Baratta, in 1955. He then earned a MS in education from Siena College in 1957. Catherine and he then moved to Tully, NY where he began a fulfilling career as a math and business teacher at Tully High School for 32 years. During his years teaching, Walt saw the need for a credit union for the staff at the local area schools and, with fellow educators, started the SECNY Federal Credit Union in 1971 in his home. After his retirement from teaching in 1989, Walt continued to work for the credit union for several more years. Walt's hobbies included singing in The Music Men of Syracuse, building and flying his own airplane, building and flying model airplanes, playing the guitar, playing golf, and visiting with his grandchildren. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings Richard, Winifred, Joseph, Edward, and Robert.

Walt is survived by his sons, David (Hilary Sochacki) and Daniel (Marianna McSweeney); granddaughter Alexandra (Robert Braconi); grandsons Eryk and Evan; great grandson Max Braconi; sister-in-laws Lorraine and Anne; and many nieces and nephews and their families. The Liszewski family would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff of The Lorelton Assisted Living Facility who gave such compassionate and loving care to Walt.

Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Lorelton Foundation, (put Employee Holiday Fund in the memo line), 2200 W 4th St, Wilmington, DE 19805.
