WILMINGTON - Ruth P. Whitaker, 95, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020. She was born January 4, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2009, and by her son, Chuck in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis W. Teti (Angelo) of Pittsburgh, PA, and three sons, William A. Whitaker (Mary) of Smyrna, Robert Whitaker Sirignano (Giovanni) of Smyrna, and Jack L. Whitaker (Nancy) of Woodbridge, VA. She is also survived by a granddaughter, six grandsons, one great grandson, six great granddaughters, three great great granddaughters, and one great great grandson. She was employed briefly by DuPont, where she worked on the Manhattan Project. Other than that, she was a homemaker who excelled in cooking, sewing and gardening. She was an avid bowler, and loved treasure hunting in thrift stores. While her husband was stationed in Hawaii, she danced the hula. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends. A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808, from 11:30-12:30pm with a funeral service beginning at 12:30pm on January 8th. A 50-person capacity restriction will be in place and masks are required. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
