Obituary

Robert A. Brown Jr. "Brownie", age 79 passed away Monday, July 13 surrounded by family. Brownie was born in Atlantic City, NJ April 5, 1936. He was the son of the late Robert Sr. and Dorothy (Libby) Brown. Brownie retired from the NJ Highway Authority after 30 + years of service. In addition to his work on the Garden State Parkway, Brownie was a life-long roofer and handyman who enjoyed helping family and friends with their homes. He was an avid softball player and played in leagues all over South Jersey. Brownie enjoyed hunting, golfing, horse racing, puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. Brownie was an active worshipper at Elsmere Presbyterian Church. He was a former trustee of the New Gretna Presbyterian Church and an Elder at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Tuckerton. Brownie served as a volunteer firefighter at the New Gretna Volunteer Fire Company and was a member of the New Gretna Town Council. He also served his community as a building inspector. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Walter. Brownie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet (Allen), sons Robert of New Jersey, David (Carrie) of Middletown, DE; six grandchildren: Robert, Samantha, Alexis, Jimmy, Jenna, Danielle, and great-grandson Wyatt; siblings James, Thomas, Frederick, Russell, Donald, Dorothy, Linda, Nancy (Bell), Bette (Kennedy), Helen (Weist), and their families. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elsmere Presbyterian Church, 606 New Road, Elsmere, DE 19805 where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. A reception in the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the service as interment will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Brownie to the Elsmere Presbyterian Church.
