Richard M. Clancy, age 79, of Newark, DE passed away in the presence of his loving daughter on April 27, 2021.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Mercer) and William Clancy. He was a member of the Newark High School Class of 1960 and went on to work as a body shop technician for General Motors until his retirement in 1993. Richard was a volunteer at the Christiana High School Football Concession Stand and at the Newark Senior Center. He was the Vice President of the Girls Wildcat Softball League and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He could also be found volunteering at his granddaughter's school snack bar at Caravel Academy.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife, Elaine M. (Sullivan) Clancy and his brothers: William, John Daniel, and James.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Clancy (James Boring) of Newark, DE and Richard M. Clancy, Jr. (Jeni A.) of Berlin, MD; his grandchildren, Danielle "Laney" Emerson, Meredith Boring, Cynthia Willard, Brett Clancy, and Felicia Clancy; two great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation on Monday May 3, 2021 from 6pm to 8pm at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Face masks are required and must be worn covering both mouth and nose at all times throughout visitation.
Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newark Senior Center, 200 Whitechapel Dr, Newark, DE 19713.
