Mildred (Baylis) Weer of Lewes, DE and Estero, FL, born on October 2, 1922 in Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at Somerford House on November 28, 2017.Mildred was the daughter of Clyde and Mildred (Gregg) Baylis. She was a graduate of Newark High School and attended Goldey Beacom School of Business for 2 years.Mildred was a secretary for Continental Fiber in Newark until she got married on September 13, 1947. She lived on Churchman's Road at the family farm. Mildred was a den mother for Boy Scouts and troop leader for Brownies. She worked for University of Delaware in 1969, beginning as a librarian at the Morris Library, then starting the chemistry lab at Brown Library, and finally moving to the College of Marine Studies, from where she retired in 1984.Upon retirement, Mildred took a 3 month cross-country trip with husband, Jack, and in-laws, Stu and Peg Renberg. Mildred and her husband spent winters at Riverwoods Plantation in Estero, FL for 30 years, starting in 1989. Mildred was a member of the Eastern Star-Naomi Chapter No. 20, and Cavaliers and Sussex Pines Country Clubs, where she enjoyed playing bridge. She was talented at golfing, fishing in the bay, painting, quilting, and knitting. Many have received Mildred's homemade dish clothes.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Jack L. Weer, and brother, Clyde H. Baylis, Jr.She will be dearly missed by her son, Greg (Renee) Weer of Lewes; her daughter, Cathy (John) Crumlish of Wilmington; grandchildren, Alison Houck, Jennifer (John) Connell, Emily Weer, John Crumlish, Joe Crumlish, and Jamie (Dave) Williams; three great grand-children, Eddie Houck, John and Lauren Connell; sister, Nancy Cosetti; sisters-in-law, Josephine Hearne and Ruth Cannon.Her family would like to thank the staff at Somerford House for their genuine compassion and care for Mildred during her stay there. On Monday, December 4, 2017, a visitation will be held from 1PM to 2PM, with a service beginning at 2PM in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE.
