Mike Chaney, age 71, Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, December 6, 2018.Born in Charleston, WV, Mike was the son of the late Donald M. Chaney and Margaret (Hendrickson) Melton. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. For over 30 years, he worked as an electrician for New Castle County, retiring in 2007. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Linda Price Thelen and the mother of his 5 children, Joan Hunter Chaney.He will be missed by his daughters, Erin Chaney (Curt Riley) of Bear, DE and April Boan (Jim) of Newark; his sons, Michael Chaney (Cristina) of Newark, DE, Kris Chaney of Wilmington, DE and John Chaney (Jennifer) of Port Penn, DE; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Carolyn Fredricks (Rick) of Port Deposit, MD and Brenda Ritchie (Paul) of Charleston, WV; and his brother James Melton (Joanne) of Virginia.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19th at 12 noon at the Word of Life Christian Center, 854 S. Old Baltimore Road, Newark, DE 19702 where friends and family are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Burial will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
