Mary A. Concavage, 81, of Newark, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Christiana Hospital.
Mary was born in Centralia, PA, the daughter of the late Helen (Evankovich) and John Cheddar. She graduated from the Ashland Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse, with most of her career being in psychiatry. As a long-term member of St. Johns-Holy Angels parish, she was the co-founder of the Angels dinner group, a eucharistic minister, and visited with the elderly and the sick. In addition, she was involved in numerous activities as an Ursuline associate.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who was very involved in all aspects of her family's life. Amongst many other roles in her life, she was a scout leader, home room mother, cheerleading coach, and one of the original "soccer moms". Whatever was the children's/grandchildren's interest of the moment, she was always there to cheer them on. In later years, she became the passer-down of family traditions ensuring that Donut Day, Christmas Cookie Day and Easter Candy Making were official holidays. She loved to travel, especially with her family, having seen much of the world through both her and their eyes.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E.; and her brother, Joseph. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah of Hockessin and Donna Jean of Newark; her son Jason (Jaime) of Wilmington; her grandsons, Henry and Oliver; her brother Charles; a host of nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd, Newark DE 19711 followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington DE 19808. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to St. Johns-Holy Angels Parish at the address above, or The Ministry of Caring, 115 E. 14th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
