Kay Diane Ellis, 81 of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Christiana Hospital. Kay was born in Rockford, IL, the daughter of the late Germaine (Palinski) and Delbert Kunz. She worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years at the Illinois Research Institute, St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, WI, the Rocky Knoll Nursing Home, and the Willowdale Nursing Home, where she was the director of nursing. Kay also worked as a consultant for Unicare. She was an avid bowler and accomplished musician playing the piano, organ, and violin. She also enjoyed playing cards with her kids. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband, Verner J. Van De Hey and her brother, Kent N. Kunz. Kay is survived by her children, Sara Fechter (Leo, Jr.) of Fredonia, WI, John A. Van De Hey of New Holstein, WI, Mark A. Van De Hey of Fuquay-Varina, NC, and Mary Van De Hey (John O'Connell) of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Kate, Lea, and Leo Fechter, III; and her great-granddaughter, Waverleigh.
