Joan V. Nichols Slaughter, age 75, of Wilmington, DE passed away at Cadia Silverside on January 8, 2018. Born in New Castle on December 12, 1942, Joan was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma (Coston) Bungy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Slaughter and ex-husband, Robert F. Nichols; five brothers and two sisters: Clifford, James, Lawrence, Alvin, Roger, Josephine, and Olivia. She is survived by her son, David K. Nichols of Newark, DE; her sister Maryann Benson of Wilmington, DE; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She graduated from William Penn High School and began working at the Family Court for 31 years and retired as a Scheduling Secretary. Joan then worked as a receptionist at Ingleside Apartments from 1991-2000.A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 1-2 PM with services beginning at 2 PM at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
