James B. King, age 93, passed away on February 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eleanor King, and his brother John King. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Mercante) King.Jim was a Purple Heart decorated U.S. Air Force World War II veteran. As a 22-year-old gunner, he lost his leg on his 15th bombing mission over Germany, when his B-17 was shot down. He was a member of the "Caterpillar Club", which included those vets who parachuted to safety. He was employed as the Chief of the Prosthetics Department at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Wilmington until his retirement. Jim was an avid golfer and was active for many years in the Amputee Golf Association.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. Dupont Street, Wilmington, DE 19805, where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery with military honors.
