Obituary

Henry Evans White, local architect, passed away on August 22nd at Compassionate Care Hospice. He was a partner of Moeckel Carbonell Associates from which he retired in 1995. His career spanned more than forty-two years.Mr. White was a project architect for many buildings in Delaware and Pennsylvania, including corporate headquarters for Columbia Gas; additions to the Veterans' Hospital in Elsmere, renovations to the Wilmington Train Station, the City/County Building, the McLaughlin Public Safety Building, Alexis I. duPont High School, YMCA, and numerous other local schools and government buildings. He took great pride in knowing his life's work provided space in which others would heal, learn, develop creative potential, having a positive effect on future generations.His community involvement included service on the YMCA Board of Directors and Properties Committee, and the United Way of Delaware. He was a member of Westminster Church and the Greenville Country Club.He was born in Hackensack, New Jersey to Clarence H. and Violet Long White, who with his sister, Marion, and first wife, Mary D. predeceased him. During World War II, he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1952.He is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Marilin Meekins White; daughter, Faith Gincley; grandson, James Evans Gincley of Stuart, Florida; stepson, Dennis Schmehl; stepdaughter, Elisabeth Mitchell; step grandson, Ryan Mitchell; and several cousins.The family wishes to thank the staffs of Compassionate Care Hospice, Delaware Hospice, The Country House Health Care and Christiana Care for their kindness and expertise.A memorial service will be held at a later date.
