Obituary

Age 89 of Wilmington passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Christiana Hospital. Hank was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Stella (Lewandowski) and Stefan Kowalski. He graduated from Brown Vocational High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. He received the Pacific Theater and American Theater Ribbons and the Victory and Philippine Liberation Medals. After his discharge, Hank joined the Delaware Army National Guard where he worked for 37 years retiring in 1979. His hobbies include gardening, crossword puzzles and reading. In addition to his parents, Hank was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony Kowalski and Joseph Pasturski and his sisters, Sophia Brown, Helen DiCarlo and Cecilia Robinson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence (Parkinson) Kowalski; his son, Stephen Kowalski; his daughter, Christine Kowalski and her partner, Ali Samii and his sister, Alfreda Staniszewski, all of Wilmington. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 11 AM at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 10 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1096 Old Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19713.
