Helen "Betty" Bender, 97 passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Regal Heights, her residence for the past month. She resided in Westgate Farms for 50 years.Betty was born August 3, 1917 in Middle Branch, OH to the late Adam and Anna Hare. She married the love of her life, Richard G. Bender on April 12, 1940. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and watching all birds and wildlife in her yard.Betty was predeceased by her husband Richard G. Bender, Sr. and her son, Thomas G. Bender. She is survived by her son, Richard G. Bender, Jr. of Wilmington, her daughter, Betsey Nichols and her husband, David of Wilmington and her son, Robert G. Bender and his wife Karen of Newark. Also surviving are her grandchildren and their spouses, Diane (Joe), Bill (Michele), Renee (Karl), Rick (Lauren), Katie (Edward), Jennifer (Harvey) and Robert (Kate) and nine great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 AM at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME,2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 10 AM. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Newark, DE 19711.
