Obituary

Francis "Frank" A. Monaco Sr. passed away peacefully August 14, 2018 surrounded by his family. Frank was born in Wilmington DE on September 4th, 1929 where he resided all his life.Frank attended Brown Vocational High School where he was a stand-out fullback for several championship teams. He also played basketball and ran track. As a result of his football prowess he received an offer of a college football scholarship. After graduating from high school, Frank served in the Army during the Korean War. After receiving his discharge, he became a plumber with Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #74 until his retirement.Frank was a member of St. John the Beloved Roman Catholic Church. He was active in the Athletic Association and served as an usher. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golf. Frank was predeceased by his father Francisco and mother Lucia (Bove) as well as his two sisters Toni Loughery and Lucy Hougentogler. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Grace, four children, Frank Monaco Jr. (Terri), Lucia Cox (David), Tony Monaco (Zoia) and Mary Monaco Hanlon and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road on August 20, 2018 at 11 AM, where friends may call after 10 AM. A private burial will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his memory to Catholic Charities, 2601 W 4th St, Wilmington, DE 19805.
