Obituary

Was removed from this life by God on Sunday, August 16, 2015 after spending 101 years in His loving care here on earth. She was the daughter of Mary Bechtel and Frank Andes of Akron, PA. She attended Metzler's, a one-room, eight-grade country school (still in use), near her parents' home in Andes Acres and the family business of greenhouses. Also on their property was located the natural Diamond Spring Water and the trolley tracks which ran to and from Lancaster, Akron and Ephrata. The waiting room for the trolley was in their front living room and a sign to that effect was on the front porch. Her job, at about 8 years old, was to fill washed milk cans with spring water via a garden hose. Cans were then transported by trolley car into Lancaster along with the passengers. After Metzler's, as other country girls, she was adept at sewing, making patterns, etc., and eventually worked with her friends at the Akron Shoe Factory as a piece worker. At the age of 18, along came the Ephrata Fair when Edna met Alfred Mimm, Jr., and two weeks later, they were married, and it lasted almost a lifetime. They were spectacular dancers accompanied by the live big touring bands of the era, and dancing continued to be their favorite recreation. As a homemaker, Edna took pride in cooking Pennsylvania Dutch-style recipes and crocheting. Additionally, she and Alfred enjoyed vacationing in St. Petersburg, FL, Wildwood, NJ, and Myrtle Beach, SC for thirty years.Edna, at age 5, was predeceased by her mother, and later in her life, by her father, brother Ray Andes, sister Elizabeth Derby, her dearest husband of 60 years, Alfred, and beloved son-in-law Harry F. Bargelski, Sr.Left to survive her and loving her still are daughters Darlene M. Bargelski and Kathleen M. Blackwelder (Herbert); grandchildren, Claudette E. Dunford, Harry F. Bargelski, Jr., Richard A. Bargelski, Patrick T. Bargelski, Robert B. Bargelski, Daniel J. Bargelski, Jennifer A. Shalk and Marigrace Koptyra; 16 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Also left to miss her, sisters-in-law, Mary Grossi (Peter), Dolores Gibble, brother-in-law George Mimm, and many nieces and nephews in Lancaster. The family sincerely wishes to thank the entire staff at Millcroft Assisted Living and, especially, their entire Healthcare staff for their steadfast, compassionate care of Edna during her transition. We wanted to keep her, but Heaven was her home, and she was only here on a visit.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 25th at 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of St. Peter, 500 N.
