Beatrice Cecilia Freeman of Philadelphia PA passed to a new life on July 8, 2018 just shy of her 93rd birthday.She was born on July 16, 1926, to the late Virginia Scott and Fred Jones Sr. She was the 3rd of 14 children, 8 of whom predeceased her: Fred Jones Jr, Lillian Cosby, Sarah Freeman, Delores Anderson, Barbara Miller, Pauline Scott, Constance Gaskins and James Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George R. Freeman.Beatrice was an active participant in civics and political organizations in the West Philadelphia community in which she lived. In the mid 60's she was one of the founding members of the"Concerned Citizens of the Cobbs Creek Community", the 5 C's. Their stipulation, that no alcoholic beverages can be sold within the community's boundaries, is still in place today.She was a teacher for over 30 years, including 20 years at her alma mater West Philadelphia High School. There she was trained to work with video camera equipment by the Board of Education and Pierce Phelps Company. She subsequently pioneered a program in the Philadelphia School System that involved the use of closed circuit televisions and cameras which allowed students to produce daily television news shows. In the late 60's Bea, as she was affectionately known, sat on the minority advisory council for WFIL TV now WPVI. She was very proud to be a member of the council and during that time helped to design a TV production van and was instrumental in helping some of her former students secure jobs with WPVI. Her son Robert is currently a WPVI Action News camera man.She is survived by her children, Lance Freeman, Derrick Freeman, Adean Freeman and D. Robert Freeman; Daughters in Law, Sharon and Melissa; four grandchildren, Lance B Freeman, Nina Freeman, Robert B Freeman and Jessica Warren; five great grandchildren; five 5 surviving siblings; Lorraine Brown, June Scott, Linda Jackson, Margo Jones, Carol Jones; and numerous Nieces and Nephews and Cousins
