Ann B. Cavacini, age 89, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Season's Hospice Care Center, Newark, DE.She was a devoted wife and mother, and daughter of the late Alexander and Anna Cwalina. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church for many years. Ann was loving, assertive, open minded, and devoted to prayer and her Catholic faith; she found strength in the rosary as well as the teachings of the Dalai Lama.Originally from Shamokin, PA, Ann lived in Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and South Carolina until 1997, when she settled in Newark, DE to be close to her children and grandchildren.In her earlier years, Ann was an outstanding dancer and loved to jitterbug. She was an avid music fan her whole life, and she particularly enjoyed music from the Big Band era. She loved going out to see live bands. Ann was always on the go and was usually hard to keep up with, well into her 80's! Ann loved shopping and was the consummate bargain hunter. She loved the beach, aerobics, bowling, and crewel embroidery. Ann enjoyed puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and card games, especially Chinese Rummy. In her later years, she loved the board game Rummikub and played it often with her family. Ann loved attending her grandchildren's sports games; in fact, she loved any time spent with family. Her help was swift and invaluable whenever a new grandchild was born.She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmen V. Cavacini; four sisters, Helen, Mary, Josephine and Frances; three brothers, Thomas, John and Anthony. She was the youngest of her siblings. She is survived by three daughters, Keren Portia of Arden, DE, Debra, wife of Herbert Thompson, Jr. of Newark, DE, Cheryl, wife of David Battan of Bethesda, MD; two sons, Lars Alexander, husband of Rose Crescenz of Boulder, CO and Carmen C. Cavacini of Newark, DE; eight grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, Alex, twins Hayley and Ryan, Nick, Emily and Andy.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 345 Bear Christiana Road, Bear, DE 19701 on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. where a time of gathering will begin at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon and celebration of Ann's life will directly follow the mass at La Casa Pasta. Interment will be private and held by the family.In lieu of sending flowers, the family suggests considering giving a contribution to your favorite charity in Ann's memory.
