Andrew K. Crosby aka Hiawatha Byrd, Jr., age 50, passed away quietly on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at his home in New Castle, DE. Andrew was born in South Philadelphia, PA. and grew up in New Jersey and was formerly of Bristol Twp, PA. and New Hope, PA. He was the son of the late Ethel E. "Anita" Kirby and Hiawatha Byrd, Sr.Andy attended Williamstown High School and was recently attending an online program at National American University to obtain his Bachelors of Healthcare Administration. He was a 2015 graduate of Ultimate Medical Academy, Tampa, FL with his Associates Degree of Sciences in Healthcare Management with High Honors where he was also named UMA Ambassador. His family was descendants of the Cherokee, Rappahannock Indian Tribe. "DJ ICEMAN DREW" was recently the Disc Jockey for Crimson Moon Tavern in Wilmington, DE where he was the promoter of the Ms. Crimson Moon pageant. He had previously been a bartender at the former CR/MSA Club, Melbourne, Pa and had been a Customer Service Manager of the Call Center for Commerce Bank, PA.Andy enjoyed time spent with family and friends, loved Italian and spicy foods especially steak. He loved to listen, mix and play music. Andy's most favorite activity was training and raising his beloved Xenia and Zeke puppies, who were his caregivers on his rough days.In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brandon J. Crosby and his Uncle Geronimo "Jerry" Byrd and a former brother in law, Weldon H. "Skip" Sweeney. He is survived by his partner, Scott A. Clemens; his sisters, Michelle L. Byrd Gillespie and Sonja M. Byrd; his brother in law, Michael Gillespie; his two nephews, Anthony M. Sweeney and Christopher M Achievol; his two nieces, Nicole, wife of Danny Johnston and Faleecia Sweeney; his great nephew, Kaden and his great nieces, Alana, Harmony and Avery; his special friends, Armond Rossi and Lou Kline, and his special "momma" Brenda J. LaMour.A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, July 17,2016, 3:00 pm at Mealey Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington De 19805 where visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friends are invited to wear bright colors in a casual dress. A balloon release to follow as burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.Memorial contributions can be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center. The family wants to extend a special thank you to his care team of both professionals and his friends, who joined in his 14 month battle with Lung Cancer .
