Alice M. Mercante, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Alice was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Alice (Neff) and John Dorris. She graduated from St. Elizabeth's high school and went on to be a secretary at Harleysville Insurance, and later Nationwide Insurance until her retirement. She was very proud of her faith, and was an active parishioner at St. John the Beloved catholic church. In her free time, Alice loved to spend as much time as possible with her family. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Vincent J. Mercante Sr.; and brothers Jerry, John and William Dorris. Alice is survived by her daughters Sharon Mercante (Edmund), Jacqueline (Gene) Francia, Nicole (Sal) Guariano, and son Vincent J. Mercante, Jr. (Maureen); eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Robert Dorris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at St. John the Beloved, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 where friends and family may call from 10:30 AM to 11.45 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 12:00PM. Burial will be private.
