Alfred Rodney Betuel, 89, of Newport, passed away on March 7, 2018.Alfred was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Irene Frank and Gerald Betuel. Alfred served his country proudly in the US Navy aboard both the U.S.S. Stack and U.S.S. Gendreau. Upon leaving the Navy, Alfred was a conductor on the Long Island Railroad for 26 years. After retiring, he and his wife, Flora, moved to Delaware in 1972. One thing Alfred certainly enjoyed was horse races at Delaware Park.Alfred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Flora C. (Reina) Betuel; his daughters, Christine Rosen, Laura Azadiane, and Diane Betuel-Leoni (Robert); his sons, Kenneth Betuel (Dora) and Alfred Betuel (Madelyn); step-son, Roger; his brother, Walter Betuel (Betty); his sister, Jean Buccino; his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren.Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 after 6 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where services will begin at 7 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Disabled American Veterans, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Room 27, Wilmington, DE 19805.
