Doris Marie Kulakowski

Doris M. Kulakowski passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She was the wife of the late Alfred F. Kulakowski with whom she shared 53 years of marriage before his death in 2005. She was also predeceased by her loving mother and step-father, Mamie E. and Stanley J. Rogalski, as well as her dear sister, Esther L . Whittaker. She will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Karol Lynn and Robert L. Dayett, and grandchildren, Christopher F. Dayett of Naples, FL and Jacquelyn M. Dayett of Hockessin, DE. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Frank J. Lewis, Jr.; her Aunt Eleanor Massey; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Doris was born in Wilmington, DE and grew up on the East Side of the city. She attended St. Paul Commercial School and graduated with honors at the age of 16. At the end of each school day, she worked as personal secretary to the Very Reverend John Francis Tucker, OSFS, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church.

Doris was a woman with strong faith and trust in God. She had great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Blessed Mother. Sister Leontia of St. Paul’s and Father Tucker were wonderful role models in her life and were very influential in her conversion to Catholicism.

While Doris loved being a secretary, her managerial skills were quickly recognized by her employers. She was promoted to Manager at both Industrial Model Supplies, Inc. in Arden, DE and later at Sears, MacArthur Drive, Wilmington, DE. She held numerous positions at Sears, starting as Administrative Secretary, then Manager of the Parts Department, followed by Manager of Maintenance Agreements, and retiring as Accounting Manager in 2000 after 28 years of service. While she was greatly admired and loved by her many bosses and co-workers, those feelings were mutual.

Doris’ most cherished titles were wife, Mom, and Mom-Mom to her Al, her Lynn, her Christopher, and her Jac (Jacquelyn)! She was a very proud grandmother, and her grandchildren were “the loves of her life!” They brought her the greatest joy!

Visitation will be held at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 6pm to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John's on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00am. Friends may also call at the church from 10am to 11am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’ memory can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713; Carmelite Monastery, 2501 Manor Drive, Loretto, PA 15940; or Sisters of the Visitation, 14 Beach Road, PO Box 432, Tyringham, MA 01264.

We wanted to share our condolences with the Kulakowski family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3, 4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.
